Record-breaking ratings for the fourth season premiere of Talpa Studios’ The Tribute – Battle of the Bands on SBS6

January 27, 2025 Talpa Studios’ nostalgic, feel-good music competition The Tribute – Battle of the Bands, has kicked off its fourth season with record-breaking numbers. The first episode delivered a standout performance, with an impressive 16.1% market share in the key demographic, well above the channel average of 11.8%. Including delayed viewing, the market share climbed even higher, to 18%, reflecting a highly successful start of the season.

The strong ratings for The Tribute – Battle of the Bands highlight the show’s growing popularity and steady increase in both viewership and audience loyalty. This success is further proven by The Tribute – Live in Concert series, held in a major Dutch concert hall at the end of each season, which consistently sells out in record time – eight sold-out shows over just three seasons. Each season, the tribute bands give it their all, knowing that only the top four bands will earn the ultimate reward: headlining these highly anticipated concerts.

Talpa Studios’ founder John de Mol proudly states: “These results are unheard of for SBS and represent the best rating performance of any show in the Talpa Studios catalog for four years running. This show truly sets itself apart from other band formats. The genuine and simple format mechanism, the gigantic level of authenticity of its contestants and fan-favorite music all play a part in its huge success. Additionally, the prize – a chance for the top four bands to perform at a major concert – which money can’t buy, is a huge draw. These concerts are always sold out in record time. Also, the spinoff material from the show, such as documentaries, performs incredibly well. It’s exciting to see how young viewers especially embrace tribute bands, contributing further to the show’s success.”

About the show
The Tribute – Battle of the Bands features a dozen tribute bands giving their all as they try to recreate their favorite band’s hits. Each band must try to replicate the sound and voice of the original song as closely as possible. A professional jury of three will judge each performance, along with a joint fourth jury member that’s comprised of 100 music experts whose average score counts as one. The finale starts with six bands. At the halfway point of the finale, the four bands left all win a unique prize that money can’t buy: they’ll get to perform at a sold-out tribute concert in one of the biggest concert halls in the Netherlands. The Tribute – Battle of the Bands is the ultimate tribute to some of the best national and international bands around. It’s a real treat for the viewers and the fans!
