Australia’s Seven Network commissions Talpa Studios’ new quiz show Caught in the Middle

October 14, 2025 Talpa Studios’ latest quiz show Caught in the Middle makes its debut as a brand-new format with two commissions confirmed from the start. Dutch broadcaster SBS6 and Australian broadcaster Seven Network have ordered local versions, with the Australian edition produced by Eureka Productions (a Fremantle company) in partnership with Talpa Studios. Both editions will be filmed in Talpa Studios’ international production hub. The Dutch version is set to premiere on SBS6 in January 2026, while Seven will announce its scheduling at a later date.

Created by John de Mol’s Talpa Studios, Caught in the Middle is the ultimate quiz battle between one duo and one hundred opponents. The duo stands at the center of a giant LED arena surrounded by a hundred opponents. Over the course of 15 questions, they must outsmart the crowd by picking answers that match as many rivals as possible – knocking them out one by one before the opponents reach the middle and claim the €50,000 jackpot for themselves.

Sebastian van Barneveld, Director Global Distribution at Talpa Studios said: “Seeing Caught in the Middle land its first international deal in Australia before the Dutch premiere, is remarkable. With Eureka producing alongside Seven, and its ultra-clean visuals combined with simple, proven ingredients, much like The Floor, this format is primed for global success.”

Seven Group Managing Director, Television, Angus Ross said: “We’re thrilled to introduce this bold new format to Australian audiences. It’s fresh, unpredictable and brimming with suspense and drama – everything you want in a hit quiz show.”

CEO at Eureka Productions, Rikkie Proost said: “We’re delighted to partner with Talpa Studios again to bring Seven the next evolution of quiz show entertainment. Caught in The Middle combines strategy, humour and heart to create must-watch family viewing on an epic scale.”

About the show

Caught in the Middle is a quiz show where opponents literally close in on the players. One duo finds themselves on a big LED floor, at the center of a massive circular arena. Fifteen rings keep 100 opponents at bay. Those opponents all start on the outer ring with one single mission: reach the center – because that’s where €50,000 is up for grabs. The duo faces 15 questions to try and eliminate every opponent. Each question comes with multiple possible answers – anything from “name a plane” to “name a U.S. president”. The 100 opponents have already submitted their answers beforehand. The duo’s challenge is to pick an answer that matches as many opponents as possible. Every time they do, those opponents are knocked out. To succeed, the duo must combine knowledge with the ability to think exactly like the crowd. After each question, one ring disappears and the remaining opponents step closer. The final question, number 15, is a Top 10 challenge. The duo must deliver as many correct answers as possible to wipe out the last opponents. If they succeed, they walk away with €50,000. But one wrong move, and the remaining opponents split the jackpot – leaving the duo with nothing..
